OUR HISTORY
TownHound, Inc. was
started in 2006 by Alan and Kathy Abbott and Lorie and Jim Foley,
two couples connected by blood (Kathy and Lorie are sisters) and by
their love of Ashland, Virginia. Affectionately known by its
residents as the “Center of the Universe,” Ashland is a unique and
tight-knit community north of Richmond. Although the town boasts
many community-building groups and events -- and a very vocal and
engaged population -- it lacked an active, online destination where
residents could come together to exchange information, ideas and
opinions. Thus, TownHound was born. Our hope is that our website
will become the place where Ashlanders come regularly for
discussions, important information and all of the things that
encourage people to “get off the porch” and interact with their
neighbors.
OUR MISSION
To provide a place where
people can connect on a local level, whether it’s through a forum
about the school system, the direction of town leadership, tips
about home improvement, gardening and childcare, or simply to
discuss current events. Free classifieds provide easy and convenient
transactions between neighbors, and our advertising enables businesses - particularly home-grown enterprises and services - to
reach the people they are targeting. |
