CSX Transportation (CSXT) will be positioning new rail along its tracks in Ashland, Va., on Monday, January 18, 2010 in preparation for a track maintenance project scheduled for February.  Monday’s work will block several streets between Gwathmey Church Road and England Street (State Route 54), to include Ashcake Road, at various times during the day. The project is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 am and will be done by 5 pm.  CSXT is working closely with local officials to coordinate the project and to ensure that emergency responders are aware of the status of each affected crossing throughout the day.  While the work is underway, passing trains will be sounding their horns to comply with federal regulations and to protect workers placing the rail.  For those traveling through the area during the scheduled work on Monday the town of Ashland encourages motorist to seek alternate travel routes to the North or South of Ashland.  The rail replacement project is part of CSXT’s ongoing track maintenance program to ensure safe and efficient rail service.
