John M. Gandy Elementary Receives $5,000 Grant

John M. Gandy Elementary School has been selected to receive the 2009-2010 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF).   Lowe’s awarded $5,000 to “Gandy’s Garden: In Search of Patterns in Nature.” More »

UPDATED CSX TRAFFIC ADVISORY

We are anticipating that the England Street, Myrtle Street and College Avenue railroad crossings will be closed from 12:00 noon Tuesday and remain closed throughout most of the daytime hours. Please make plans ahead of time to avoid traveling through these crossings as the CSX work continues.

Ashland Community Relief Fund for HAITI

The Ashland Community Relief Fund for Haiti is in the works!  We hope to reach as many of our friends and neighbors as possible.  The Fund is being raised in conjunction with the American Red Cross.  All funds collected will be donated to the Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Checks should be made payable to the “American Red Cross, Greater Richmond Chapter”  (this is a CHANGE). UPDATED Traffic Advisory for Monday, January 18, 2010

ashland pDWe are anticipating that the Ashcake Road railroad crossing will be closed from 9:00 am Monday morning and remain closed throughout most of the daytime hours. Also we are anticipating the England Street railroad crossing closing at 12:00 noon and remaining closed throughout the daytime hours as well. If you have experienced any of the following transactions in the past year, you may have difficulty paying your taxes to the Town on Friday, January 15, 2010:

  • Bought a vehicle
  • Sold a vehicle
  • Transferred ownership of a vehicle
  • Bought property
  • Sold property
  • Have a DMV stop on your Virginia State Registration

Both Hanover County and the Commonwealth of Virginia will be closed in observation of Lee Jackson Day on January 15th

We Were There: History Through the Arts

The great history of our country, both the tragedy and the triumph, will be presented in the production of We Were There: History through the Arts. This event will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings, February 5-6, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Blackwell Auditorium on the campus of Randolph-Macon College.  The production will present significant stories and events from our country’s history through dramatic readings, dance, poetry and song.
